Double glazed windows

There is a lot to be said for installing double glazed windows within your home. They are generally more secure than standard single glazed windows and they offer a reasonable level of sound proofing. However, above all else they offer the capacity to save you a veritable fortune on your energy bills.
Double glazed windows have been developed and fine-tuned over the years so that they can help to retain heat and ensure that you aren’t forced to turn your heating up to maximum and watch your money practically burn away as a result. Add to this the recent shift towards cutting energy use as a result of global warming awareness and it is clear why companies are so keen to offer the best energy efficient windows
But how is double glazing actually reducing your bills?
More Secure Locking & Frame Fitting
It might not seem obvious at first why better locks would save you money on your energy output, but this small detail is an intricate part of how modern efficient windows ensure that heat is kept in your home where it belongs.
With many old single glazed windows or even some of the less modern double glazing installations there is often a certain level of slackness to the fittings. That is to say that they are significantly less air tight and a lot more warm air escapes as a result and you find yourself turning up the heating to compensate. With the most modern options the techniques, materials and locking mechanisms make it easier to ensure that the unit is sealed effectively.
Gas Insulation
Ordinary double glazed windows simply consist of two panes of glass, separated by a pocket of air in the middle. The problem with this is that the air within the panes acts as a very weak buffer between the cold air outside and warm air inside meaning that heat transfers and is lost.
One particularly effective form of insulation is Argon Gas Insulation. Gases like Argon, Xenon and Krypton have a lower thermal conductivity than air meaning that substituting the air with these means lowering the transfer of warm air through the window panes.
Better Materials http://maimprove.co.uk/UPVC-windows/
In recent years the materials available for window frames have evolved dramatically. The development of UPVC (Unplasticized Poly Vinyl Chloride) as an alternative to wood has been a major boon to the industry. UPVC is extremely durable and essentially, extremely heat efficient. The material seals the window more effectively than other materials like wood and aluminium and its compacted material retains heat better than either.
Other Savings
It’s not only these features that make double glazing one of the most common home improvements. Consider the low maintenance that comes with the more resilient modern windows. Consider improving your property value, or even just the peace of mind that comes with knowing that your home is that good bit more secure.
